Flora Magica is one local accessories brand you should be on the look out for. Created by Liane Aboitiz, I simply love the colors and designs that go into the earrings she has. Inspired constantly by nature, it reflects our tropical aesthetic and it’s also for those beach bums who can’t let summer go.
In time for the new collection of Flora Magica, I asked Liane about her current inspirations and what’s coming up for the new label.
What is the name of your collection? What inspired it?
The first collection is simply the Summer 2018 collection. I was inspired by the idea of traveling to a tropical destination. My brand is inspired by the natural world, so I wanted to use materials like seashells to highlight their raw and beautiful features but still make them wearable and fun.
What materials did you use to make these earrings?
I used natural shapes and materials that echo the beauty you can find at the beach. I combined stones with carved mother of pearl and other raw shells, materials that are mostly locally sourced in Philippines.
How long did it take you to create the collection? What difficulties did you encounter?
I started designing this collection [early] 2017. A lot of time was spent in research and development, collecting materials and figuring out the best way to manufacture my pieces. The biggest challenges so far have been finding the right suppliers and making sure that quality is up to par. I work with manufacturers locally and in Asia, but materials are sourced from all over the world.
Describe the woman who you envision wearing these earrings?
The woman I envision wearing my pieces is someone who loves adding color and an unexpected element to her outfits. I picture this woman putting on a simple top and jeans and throwing on my earrings to achieve that relaxed yet beach-chic vibe.
What’s your favorite piece from the collection?
My favorite piece is the Bali hoop. It’s such an easy piece to wear and can translate from day to night or beach to city. I love the delicate carving of the mother of pearl and the way the material shines when it catches the light. The Bali hoop is a piece that is understated and unique, designed to elevate the natural features of the mother of pearl.

I am launching Flora Magica online at www.shopfloramagica.com hopefully by the end of May. I am also planning a few more trunk shows this year in Manila and Cebu! Right now, I am accepting orders through Flora Magica’s Instagram account at @shopfloramagica
