Why You Need Hyaluronic Acid In Both Your Skincare and Makeup

Beauty / May 25, 2018

Hyaluronic acid has been, for sometime, the wonder ingredient of the beauty industry. It’s a skincare necessity for me. But I feel like more people need to consciously integrate it into their skincare routine.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body. It makes the skin plump and supple, which makes it your best friend when you need to avoid fine lines and wrinkles.

Unlike the other acids you may be familiar with, it doesn’t exfoliate nor strip the skin of other elements. Rather, it’s a supercharged moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.

As you get older, your body produces less hyaluronic acid, so you need to double down on using it in your skincare regimen. Even when applied topically, it can nourish and hydrate your skin down to the inner layers.

Hyaluronic acid also stimulates the production of collagen, thus creating a domino effect in your skin that reverses the signs of aging.

I have several product suggestions containing hyaluronic acid. From Kiehl’s, there’s the Super Multi-Corrective Cream. This antiwrinkle cream nourishes and moisturizes the skin. Use it day and night not just to revitalize the skin but also to protect it, as it combines hyaluronic acid with jasmonic acid and beech tree extract.

If you need a more targeted approach, there is Kiehl’s Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate. This one has vitamin C to make your skin brighter-looking while reducing facial lines.

You can also try Perricone MD Hyalo Plasma Cream. It has three different forms of hyaluronic acid but a lightweight, gel-like formula, so it doesn’t sit so heavy on the skin. It’s also a dummy-proof cream since it suits all skin types.

If you’re a serum fan, you can try the For Beloved One Hyaluronic Acid GHK-Cu Moisturizing Serum. It helps slow down the aging process and helps your skin create a barrier to protect it from harmful elements.

For masks, there are many to choose from. Something fun and different is the Dr. Jart+ Shake & Shot Hydro Shot Shaking Rubber Mask. The cream-to-sheet mask helps you customize the formula according to your skin’s needs. It has a booster and an ampoule. You can choose which combination suits you—from hydrating to soothing, and brightening to firming. These solutions contain hyaluronic acid and a water botanical complex.

Aside from these, you can also get an extra hyaluronic shot from a few makeup products. This Works Perfect Look Skin Miracle is a tinted moisturizer that’s great for no-makeup days. You can make your lips look a little plumper with Guerlain KissKiss Shaping Cream Lip Colour or By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge.
