How to get the most out of your beauty sleep

Beauty / August 23, 2019

The best way to get and maintain good skin is to always get enough sleep. No one can contest how beneficial clocking in zzz’s when it comes to keeping lines away and developing that natural glow.

Sleep, however, no matter how essential, seems to always elude us. My schedule within a week leaves me going to bed late and waking up in the morning. I’m feeling the rush of the last few months of the year. We’re all getting busier before the big holidays.

It’s because of this I got to thinking about beauty products which can boost the effect of sleep. Or at least products you can use just before you call it a night to get the most out of your beauty sleep, no matter how many hours you get.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t aim for better sleeping habits because of these products. In fact, maybe these products will help you put to sleep back as a priority.

Since I’m a fan of self-tanning, I try my best to maintain that sun-kissed glow through something like the James Read Tan Extending Sleep Serum. Available via Net-A-Porter, this also nourishes the skin with aloe vera, antioxidant tea leaf extract, and anti-aging hyaluronic acid. You simply apply it on your face, neck, and body as before you slip into your PJs.

Kora Organics has a Calming Lavender Mist for those who need a way to encourage deep sleep. Aside from lavender, the mist also has flower water, noni fruit extract, aloe vera, and bergamot water to help you destress after a long day.

Consider Sunday Riley Luna Night Sleeping Oil if you’re into facial oils. This product is slowly becoming a cult favorite. It promises youthful, luminous, even-toned skin in the morning. It uses retinol to reduce the visibility of pores while blue tansy and German chamomile essential oil calm down redness. Apply a little of this after cleansing and exfoliating to boost the moisturizing you do at night.

Another product for the face is the Grown Alchemist Age-Repair Sleep Masque. This lightweight overnight mask is made with oligo-peptide to reduce wrinkles. It’s advised to press this gently into the face, neck, and decolletage as the final step to your skin routine.

If you want to truly spoil yourself, you can go for a silk pillowcase and sheets. Silk pillowcases are often said to be beneficial to the skin and hair and they don’t tug and have less friction on the skin so you don’t develop wrinkles. A popular pick is Slip with their Pure Silk Pillowcase in a variety of colors. You can also get a matching sleep mask to double down on sleeping like royalty.

For your hair, there’s the SachaJuan Overnight Hair Repair with sea algae and mineral extracts to strengthen hair and create elasticity and shine. After washing your hair at night, apply this evenly all throughout your mane. In the morning, you don’t have to rinse it out as it would be absorbed by your hair.

Another hair treatment you can try is Phyto Secret De Nuit Intense Hydration Night Treatment. This is particular for dull and dry hair as it provides deep conditioning and restoration. Get this one at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.

Feet shouldn’t be exempt from some TLC too. Tired feet can benefit from Earth Therapeutics Aloe Moisture Socks. Apply your chosen lotion or foot cream before wearing this so you’re moisturized when you wake up.

Since our weather can get quite dry, causing cracked lips and depriving our skin of moisture, you may also get a Levoit Cool Mist Humidifier. It also helps you breathe better, avoid contracting airborne diseases, and can also aid you with aromatherapy.

You can choose a few of these helpers suited to your needs to make the most out of the sleeping hours you have every night.
