Reflections on playing around with nail acrylics

Beauty / March 18, 2020

I’ve decided that staying at home means I have no excuse but to try out something new. At least one thing every day. I started with giving into nail acrylics.

Friends who know me well I live life with short nails. I can never really grow them out as they tend to be brittle. People who seen mee often enough also might have noticed that when it comes to nail colors, I stick to either red or white. The one time I experiment with orange polish, I couldn’t stand it the whole day and had it changed as soon as possible.

Yes, I’m a bit of a creature of habit. But I also don’t mind to giving in to creativity. When my nails from Extraordinail came in the mail a week or so, I knew this was my chance.

Extraordinail, a favorite of Heart Evangelista and other celebrities for red carpet nails, customizes the nail acrylics to your nail beds. That’s why when you get them, all you have to do is to stick them on your nails with the acrylic that they provide as well.

Being the adventurous soul that I am (hint the irony), I just got my acrylics in white color. I’m taking baby steps with these.

They do look nice and they’re no fuss. You will feel instantly glamourous…

…until you fumble with your zipper when in the bathroom. How do people do this? I wondered how Cardi B goes through the small things for days on end with two-inch nails.

I couldn’t even type properly on my phone. I kept hitting the wrong letter. Cardi B may have a full entourage to do everything else for her but I don’t believe she has someone do her texting for her. You see how she takes selfies so easily with her one hand.

This nail acrylics thing for me is something I need to get used to. Or maybe something I will just do on special occasions.

I fumbled with using my conditioner correctly in the shower. I ended up poking myself in the eye. After that, I went swimming with my kids in the pool. I avoided holding the floaties and their other toys in fear that I might pop them.

As I write this with an eye still stinging a bit from the mentioned poke, I give credit to the women who make long acrylics look so easy. Khloe Kardashian needs to come out with a tutorial on how she can get through her day without an injury when I can barely send a message so I just end up calling the person I want to contact…that is if I can get to the call button.

Jokes aside, nail acrylics do give a chance for short-nailed girls to feel what life is like on the other side. Nail selfies are so much more fun. Consider it another accessory to play around with and to enhance your look.

For now, after my initial test run, I will be getting another set from Extraordinail but just in a shorter length. As for the color or having nail art done to it…I’ll get back to you!
