The top 5 trends of the summer

Fashion / January 14, 2022

Fashion will always allow for some escape and for us to dream. In this year’s Spring/Summer trends, we sense a need to play and be free. Nothing should be restraining or tricky to wear. It’s about feeling and looking your best without the pressure or effort, or the need for an occasion.

Take, for example, how the catsuit offers a dummy-proof way to look good from head to toe. It allows mobility along with transitional ease from day to night. It also offers variety in design from the out-there options at Marine Serre to the fun prints at Collina Strada.

A simple dress is a must-have. Easy to change into and comfortable to wear at home, mix it up with fringe. Go full party with psychedelic colors at Dries Van Noten or wear it understated à la Proenza Schouler.

Veri Peri may be the color of the year, but there’s something about white. It perhaps represents our hope for a clean slate, the simple elegance it brings, or the break it allows for calm and peace. There was a penchant for white, with a bit of a lean toward bridal fashion, on the runways of Khaite, Altuzarra, Simone Rocha and Erdem.

Of course, leisurewear is still what we all need. It just comes with a more sporty, Y2K twist. Harper’s Bazaar tags it as “Varsity Player.”

“The past couple of years saw many changes in the fashion ecosystem, but none quite as impactful as our communal, widespread commitment to leisurewear,” the publication notes. Batting for this look is Stella McCartney, Brunello Cucinelli and Rick Owens.

When the sun is out, it’s all about the skin. With designers like Nensi Dojaka capturing the zeitgeist, it’s all about interesting cuts to show off sexiness. It’s playing with silhouettes to suggest bikinis and tan lines. Throw in some sheer fabric and you’re ready for the poolside.
