“Toto” Is the Indie Film You Need to Watch Next

Culture / November 22, 2016

It’s not every day that we get quality local films so when we do, let’s make sure to support them.

I’ve caught wind of John Paul Su’s comedy Toto, a film about a young Filipino room service attendant (Sid Lucero) hoping to obtain a U.S. Visa no matter what it will cost him. The film has won several awards already.

Locally, the film won Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Thou Reyes) and Best Supporting Actress (Bibeth Orteza) in the Metro Manila Film Festival’s New Wave competition. Toto also made rounds abroad and won Best Foreign Feature Film and Best Actor (Sid Lucero) in the L.A. Comedy Festival. It also received the Audience Choice Award for Best Film in the Asian-American International Festival in New York. It’s a sweet bonus that my good friend Manet Dayrit edited and co-produced the film, too.

Toto will be in local theaters starting this Nov. 23. Let’s all catch it!
