Versace doesn’t mind rebirth

Fashion / September 28, 2020

Paris Fashion Week kicks off despite the ongoing pandemic with shows from Cecile Bahnsen and Wales Bonner today. But I don’t want to get into that just yet without taking a pause for Milan. Specifically for Versace.

Donatella Versace’s isolation experience made her dive into the archives. There she submerged herself in aquatic treasures. Vogue talks to the designer on her latest collection that’s reminiscent of the 1992 collection Gianni Versace did. It was inspired by the “trésor de la mer.”

The show setting, despite being closed to the public, still fuelled the imagination. Models walked out of the ruins of Atlantis. Wet-look hairstyles and glossy makeup complemented the rich tones found only in the deep waters.

Donatella shared, “I wanted to do something disruptive and to break the rules because I think that, what worked a few months ago, does not make any sense today. Creatively, that meant finding a way to bring the DNA of Versace to a new reality and to people who have undergone a deep change.”

I can’t get it enough of it. Looking at the collection reminds me of the hope there is and the fun fashion can bring.
