I’m just catching up with my jetlag as I write this. Yes, I’m back from New York and the craziness of Fashion Week but I’m already looking back at some of the great experiences I’ve had and the places I visited.
One of my favorite spots in NYC is Aedes Perfumery. It’s simply my favorite perfumery when I’m in the Big Apple. Located in Greenwich Avenue, you’ll love the old school and classic charm of the interiors. You’ll find beautiful flower arrangements on every table top and inspiration for your own place as well. You’ll definitely walk away with more than just a handful of scents, but also a multi-sensory experience. Shopping here is personal and very thoughtful: exactly like how you’d choose a signature scent for yourself or a cologne for a loved one.
Aedes houses several brands that are a perfume enthusiast’s dream: Byredo, Penhaligon’s Portraits, Edward Bess, Dear Rose, Hierbes De Ibiza, to name a few. You’ll also find Comme Des Garcons, Helmut Lang, Serge Lutens, Escentric Molecules on their shelves. From these choices, you’ll learn a lot about the art of perfume and learn the different disciplines each brand employs in every creation. Good luck with walking away with just one bottle.
The perfumery also offers their in-house brand Aedes de Venustas. This brand has a range of perfumes and candles that play with different notes: cinnamon, iris, vetiver, leather, and saffron. Above, you can see how I tried the Cierge de Lune which is inspired by cereus, a night-blooming flower with middle notes of vanilla along with base notes of suede accord, incense, amber, and musk.
They also offer candles with the same interesting blend of scents. If you’re picking up a few bottles as gifts, you can also get them wrapped beautifully in their signature boxes that are in itself something your friends will thank you for.
Aside from scents, Aedes also has a full range of home frangrances from room sprays and diffusers, along with potpourri and burning oils. You’ll also get your fill of skincare items from Susanne Kaufmann and bath & body necessities from brands like Maison Francis Kurkdijan, Ligne St. Barth, and L’Objet. You’ll be happy to find not just men’s care products and specific items for boys and girls but also a few necessities for your pets. It’s the type of store where you’ll realize choosing the right scent isn’t just for you but for every one who’s a dear in your life.
