Local online shop carries vintage pieces you thought you’d never find

Fashion / February 16, 2018

I’m not embarrassed to say that I’m a “sale girl”—specifically in fashion. Unless I want something right now (which hardly happens because I’m patient), I wait for stores to put up those beloved sale signs before shopping.

Otherwise, I feel cheated if I buy at full price, knowing that they’ll still be around once the season changes. I believe that good things come to those who wait, or rather, great sale finds come to those who don’t whip out their credit cards so hastily.

Call it the thrill of a good bargain. The feeling is further enriched when I get it at a discounted price. I just don’t feel happy over the purchase, I give myself a pat on the back for being systematic and practical about my shopping habits.

I also take pride in knowing when exactly these deals happen and in discovering a new way to look for these coveted pieces.
Carrying this secret around and sharing it only with your closest friends makes the whole experience more meaningful.
It also makes hitting that “Add to Cart” button much more fun. When I find a good sale, I feel I have outwitted the retail gods. Or at least that’s what they want me to think. That’s a topic for another time.

This month, I added another portal to my list of go-to places for bargain finds for designer pieces. It’s called Threads (heythreads.com). Here you will find branded items at very affordable prices. I keep refreshing this page because this is where I found some Saint Laurent wide-leg trousers and an emerald green Isabel Marant blouse at prices that you won’t find even at your favorite retail store.

You can trust in the quality of these preloved picks as they have been selected carefully by founders Cristina Cu and Arianne Kader-Cu. Both of them travel around the globe in search of—you guessed it—the best vintage and second-hand bargains.
“We want to bring the same thrill of finding the perfect piece or brand you love for a great price to our friends in the Philippines,” they said. Now, a lot of limited edition or hard-to-find pieces are just a click away. Just don’t let them escape you this time.

Cristina and Arianne said they choose with a discerning eye: “All the items curated for the collection are still in great condition, authentic, and on trend.” So, no, it’s not the usual dumping ground for clothes. The items are chosen with care, and cater not just to the usual shoppers in need of retail therapy, but to collectors who see these pieces as gems to complete their closets.

The fact that it’s all online cuts down on the time you have to dig through piles of clothes at a vintage shop.
It also gives you a quick overview of what you can get. No more back and forth conversations with store attendants about prices, or sweaty afternoons in crammed shopping areas. And they said you can’t have everything you want.

The selection includes pieces from Diane Von Furstenberg, Prada, and Tibi. Local designers like Rajo Laurel, Boom Sason and Anthony Ramirez are likewise represented. Throw in a mix of retail reliables like Zara, H&M and Lululemon.
Proceed with caution as you will find your cart full in just a few minutes. It’s a good thing not all these one-of-a-kind finds come in my size, or else I might just get them all.
